Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi says the All Progressives Congress has drifted from its founding ideals, warning that the party’s reliance on consensus politics is fueling internal crisis ahead of 2027.
Speaking on State Affairs with Edmund Obilo,, Fayemi, an APC founding member, said the party had lost its direction and vision. He criticized what he described as a lack of debate and intellectual engagement within the ruling party, and said the preference for consensus in primaries undermines democratic practice.
“This is not where the party has come from. We have lost our bearing and the vision of the founding fathers of this party,” Fayemi said during remarks at the party’s recent South-West convention in Lagos.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu, also a founding father of the APC, appears consumed by the pressures of governance. On concerns about candidate imposition, Fayemi said he does not see it that way.
“Maybe they just agree with him,” he added.
Fayemi warned that the trend of party members running to Aso Rock for favours and endorsements poses a danger to the APC.
“It would be unfortunate if everybody is running to Aso Rock because they want something,” he said. “Those who don’t get consensus won’t be happy… and you’re waiting for an implosion.”
