Over 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of the All Progressives Party (APC), in Edo South, on Tuesday, defected to the Labour Party (LP), citing endless crisis rocking both parties.
The defectors said they were ready to collapse their structures into LP, assuring the party’s senatorial candidate, Ned Imasuen of their support.
Barr. Imasuen is the immediate past senior legislative aide to Senator Matthew Urhoghide of the PDP.
Comrade John Idahosa, one of the decampees told journalists that they decided to join the party over the unresolved crisis in the PDP that led to the party producing parallel candidates.
“We cannot be floating on top of water. Governor Godwin Obaseki and Chief Dan Orbih’s case had further worsened the party crisis. Since Senator Matthew Urhoghide is not in the race, we decided to follow someone who is capable, a man who understands the working in the senate, that person is Barrister Ned Imasuen.
“One thing you people may not understand is that, at the end of the day, PDP may not have candidates in the election. And APC too is not free from crisis. So, the best and suitable candidate for Edo South Senatorial District is Barrister Ned Imasuen of Labour Party. The wind is blowing and it is high time we also do away with PDP and APC in Edo state.”
Receiving the decampees, the senatorial candidate said it was time the youths took their destiny in their own hands as he commended the courage of the defectors.
He promised to change the narrative of the Edo South if voted as a senator come February 16th, 2023.
