The gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed Alfa, has said that security breaches in some parts of the country, especially attacks on facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were ploys by bad elements in the country to create tension that would eventually lead to the postponment of the 2023 general elections.
The Nasarawa Sate SDP fagbearer, who disclosed this in Abuja on Sunday while speaking on sundry issues ahead of the polls, maintained that the perpetrators were not spirits but Nigerians who were determined to sabotage the polls by all means.
He added that it was the same set of people who have been doing everything possible to oppose the deployment of modern technology for the conduct of the polls as planned by the electoral body that are responsible for the attacks.
According to him,”they are against the deployment of modern Information Technology for the conduct o the polls, and the Commission is planning ahead of them, they are failed and expired politicians who will not succeed this time around, the country is bigger than them.
“When people are afraid that they would lose elections, they try to create problems. It is not today. We are used to it in Nigeria. It happened 2015, 2019 that they would be scaring people. Even when Boko Haram was very active, we were able to do an election, so I will like to tell these people to stop wasting their time. There is nothing they will do that will stop the elections in Nigeria come 2023.
“When people are trying to threaten the government, threaten INEC that they should not use BVAS what do you expect. And INEC says no going back on BVAS and they know they are going to fail at the elections, of course they will start attacking. So find out as journalists, who are these people telling INEC not to use BVAS. They are the first people the government should suspect.
“If they are within the government they should be fished out, if they are not within, they should gather intelligence to know who they are. They will find out that those people that do not want BVAS are the ones after INEC facilities and personnel. Those saying they should remove INEC chairman, because he is bringing sanity to the system are the ones to suspect. So, I assure the people of Nigeria, elections must hold. BVAS has come to stay and SDP is the party for Nigeria to embrace.”
He urged the nation’s security forces to rise up and track down those he described as the enemies of the state before they set the entire country ablaze.
Alhaji Alfa, who said that the SDP was on a rescue mission, urged Nigerians to be vigilant and expose criminal elements in thei vicinity so that the nation could have a peaceful polls and give the nation a responsible leadership at all levels of government
According to him, “There is hunger and poverty in the land, Nigerians are clamouring for a change and our party, the SDP is the alternative to both the APC and the PDP, the only way the change will come is for the elections to hold peacefully and it must hold with the people’s support.”
