Two men in court for allegedly stealing truck parts valued N4.1m

Two men, Hassan Aliyu, 25, a driver and Dahiru Adamu, 19, a labourer were on Tuesday arraigned in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing dumping truck parts valued N4.1 million.

The duo, from Dape Village Abuja, was charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against them.

The Prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that one Ibrahim Jalo of Jahi II, Mabushi, Abuja reported the matter to Life Camp Police station on June 6.

Nwachukwu said that the defendants who work with a dumping truck belonging to one Baba Gombe, criminally and dishonestly vandalised the complainant’s dumping truck which he parked close to their own.

She said that the defendants vandalised and made away with some items from the complainant’s truck.

She identified the items as an injector valued N1 million, key starter valued N200, 000, alternator valued N500, 000, and an oil pump valued N700, 000.

The prosecutor said that the defendants also made away with two hard wires valued N80, 000, piston valued N100, 000, slap valued N100, 000, complete rings valued N200, 000, and metal and main bearing valued N300, 000.

Nwachukwu said the defendants equally stole connecting roll valued N40, 000, complete Engine bolt valued N200, 000 all totaling N4.1 million.

She said that during the police investigation the defendants made a confessional statement.

She added that some of the stolen items were recovered from one Umaru Sani and Baba surname yet unknown, now at large.

Nwachukwu said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 288 of the panel code law.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties.

Jobbo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and have reliable means of identification.

He adjourned the case until July 31, for hearing.
