2 docked docked over alleged theft of gold chain worth ₦6m

The police on Friday, charged two people before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, over alleged conspiracy and stealing of a gold chain.

The defendants, Ukoha Nwosu, 51; and Charity Ochelo, 27, are standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, assault, and causing a breach of peace.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 28, 2025, at about 10:20 p.m. at Nomase Hotel, in Egbeda, Lagos.

She alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to steal one gold pendant chain valued at six million naira, belonging to one Mary Olayera, aof No. 44, Shasha Road, Akowonjo Roundabout, Egbeda..

They were also alleged to have assaulted the complainant.

The defendants were also accused of conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.

The offences contravene the provisions of Section 168(d), 170(1)(a)(b), 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each with two reliable sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until June 16, for hearing.
