Police have arrested a 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, after a high-speed incident that left three police officers injured in Edo State.

Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the arrest on Friday via his official X handle while responding to a viral video showing the suspect’s apprehension.

An X user had posted the video on Thursday, writing: “The Benz driver who attempted to escape from security operatives in Benin City, Edo State, today after hitting several cars and some pedestrians, was later apprehended.”

Reacting to the footage, Hundeyin said Okon was driving a heavily tinted vehicle without number plates when he first encountered police officers on the road.

“You were driving a fully and heavily tinted vehicle without number plates. You met police officers on the road and sped past in a very reckless manner,” the police spokesperson wrote.

He added that the suspect returned shortly after and nearly hit an officer before making a third pass that left three officers injured.

“On your way back, you sped past again, nearly knocking down an officer. And in what appears to be very deliberate, you came back again with the same reckless speed, this time successfully knocking down three officers,” Hundeyin said.

According to him, two of the injured officers have since been discharged from the hospital, while one remains under medical care.

Hundeyin said the suspect continued his rampage by damaging other vehicles before he was eventually intercepted by the police.

“You proceeded to damage other people’s vehicles before you were eventually apprehended. Upon searching your vehicle, substances suspected to be hard drugs were found,” he stated.

He questioned the suspect’s actions in a closing remark that underscored the seriousness of the alleged offences.

“Why have you decided to start your 2026 like this, 19-year-old Nsikak Okon?” he wrote.
