No fewer than 1,500 teachers who were employed by the immediate past Governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola sacked by Govenor Ademola Adeleke, have appealed for reinstatement.

However, the sacked teachers had appealed to the State Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to reinstate them.

The Coordinator of the sacked teachers, Owoyemi Abdulwasiu, made this appeal while fielding questions from journalists at the Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Osogbo.

The affected teachers, who congratulated Senator Adeleke on his successful assumption of office as the Executive Governor of Osun State, appealed to the governor to reverse the order nullifying the employment of 1500 teachers.

According to the Coordinator, “the contributions of these education officers/teachers towards the development of their respective places of primary assignment and the state at large since assumption of duty as testified by parents, teachers and the students alike are of no small measure.

“In retrospect, the processes that gave birth to the employment of the above-mentioned teachers have followed due recruitment processes and procedures.

“As patriotic citizens, all the privileges as newly employed teachers accorded and acceptance of term and conditions in the appointment letters were followed. We immediately reported for duty post at our respective places of primary assignment, including those posted to remote/rural areas across the State.

“Your Excellency Sir, save our soul and have mercy on us, we are your children and siblings. There are great numbers of dependants on us. Nullifying or terminating our appointments at such a time like this is like being thrown into the sea of hopelessness.”

While reacting, the Osun State government has said that those illegally employed by former Governor Oyetola are no longer in the employment of the state government and no amount of blackmail can change that reality.

Reacting to the pocket of demonstration by members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) employed towards the tail end of the last government, the state government in a statement by the Special Assistant, Community Communications to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mr Tunde Busari, noted that Mr Oyetola deliberately padded the state payroll with APC members to create stage for deeper financial crisis, conflict and disharmony.

“Those engaging in demonstrations are APC members smuggled into the state payroll by former Governor Oyetola. By virtue of the executive order issued by Mr Governor, those illegally employed remain sacked and are no longer staff of the state government. No amount of demonstration and blackmail can change that reality.”
