No fewer than 12 people have been killed in a clash between bandits and vigilantes in Zak community, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 9pm on Monday.
Zak is about 40 kilometres from Wase, the headquarters of Wase LGA of Plateau State.
A youth leader in Wase, Shapi’i Sambo, disclosed that 12 people died in the incident “out which 9 were bandits while 3 were vigilantes”.
He added: “The bandits came on motorcycles in their numbers in the morning. We suspected that they passed a night in a bush closed to Zak.
“When people realised that the bandits arrived the community, they quickly informed Operation Safe Haven stationed in Zak and they swiftly mobilised their troops to the general area and repelled the attacks together with the vigilantes. It was a serious clash.”
The incident was further confirmed by the spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi security taskforce maintaining peace in Plateau State, Major Ishaku Takwa.
Takwa, however, said he could not ascertain the casualty figure of the incident.
He disclosed that the troops of the Nigerian Army who repelled the attack moved to Gajin Bashar community to fight bandits who had stormed the area to carry out the attack.
