The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman accused of drugging a nursing mother and abducting her two-month-old baby during a business trip.

The baby has since been rescued and reunited with his parents.

Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed the incident during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Asaba.

According to Abaniwonda, the victim, a 20-year-old mother, had travelled with a woman identified as Mrs. Joy from Koko to Warri on February 16, 2025.

During the journey, the suspect allegedly offered the mother a juice drink laced with drugs, which caused her to fall asleep.

Taking advantage of the situation, the suspect absconded with the baby boy.

On April 7, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Police Station received a report of the abduction and launched an intelligence-driven investigation.

Acting on leads, officers traced and apprehended the 49-year-old suspect.

“Following discreet interrogation, the suspect confessed to abducting the baby,” Abaniwonda said.

“The child, now five months old, has been successfully rescued and handed back to his parents.”

The suspect, the Police said, remained in their custody as the investigation continued.
