Warri–Itakpe train derailment: Three dead in Agbor, Delta as NRC responds

Three people have died after the Warri–Itakpe Train Service derailed in Agbor, Delta State on Monday morning.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Managing Director Kayode Opeifa.

–What NRC is saying–

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirms that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred today,” the statement reads.

“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance.”

Opeifa said the corporation is “closely monitoring developments” and a detailed statement will follow as more information becomes available.

–Presidency confirms death toll–

In an update posted on X, the Presidency said: “Sadly, three fatalities have been confirmed at this time.”

It added that authorities are assessing “the full circumstances surrounding the incident, while support is being provided to affected passengers.”

“The thoughts and prayers of all Nigerians are with the victims and their loved ones,” the statement said.

The Presidency urged the public to “rely only on verified information and official updates from the Nigerian Railway Corporation as investigations and response efforts continue.”
