Shakirat Moshood (brace), Harmony Chidi, and Peace Effiong were all on target as Nigeria’s Flamingos beat Ecuador 4-0 to maintain a superb start at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic.

Bankole Olowookere’s side also secured a place in the quarter-final following the victory.

The Flamingos were awarded a penalty on 28 minutes after Captain Taiwo Afolabi was brought down inside the box.

Moshood coolly dispatched the spot-kick, sending the Ecuadorian goalkeeper the wrong way.

Chidi had a goal ruled out for offside 10 minutes before the break.

The forward, who was Nigeria’s top scorer in the qualifiers, had another goal chalked off for offside four minutes after the break.

Chidi, however, ended her drought by scoring Nigeria’s second goal in the 54th minute.

Peace Effiong took full advantage of a defensive blunder by the Ecuadorians to score the third goal on 66 minutes.

Moshood extended the lead for the Flamingos with her second of the match and third of the tournament deep into stoppage time.

The West Africans maintained top spot on the Group A table with six points from two games.

They will play Dominican Republic in their last group game next week Tuesday. [Prompt News]
