The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has continued its resolute campaign against individuals undermining the nation’s oil sector in the South-South region of Nigeria.

According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, on August 23, 2023, troops engaged in anti-oil theft operations acted upon credible intelligence.

Their operation led them to an illicit oil refinery site situated around Ogbokoko and Atu in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In the course of this mission, the troops dismantled 8 operational illegal refining units, which were being used to process stolen crude oil.

Additionally, they discovered and neutralized 14 storage facilities containing pilfered crude oil, estimated to be around 200,000 liters, along with 90,000 liters of locally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

He said upon the approach of the advancing troops, the oil thieves hastily fled the scene, evading capture.

The unauthorized refining site was subsequently eradicated on-site, in accordance with the established protocols of Operation Delta Safe.

An ongoing investigation seeks to apprehend the escaped criminals and bring them to justice.

Brigadier General Nwachukwu emphasized the importance of citizens’ involvement in maintaining security.

He urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities that might hint at acts of sabotage or criminal behavior.

Such information is crucial in bolstering the ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage across the nation.
