Residents of Malabo in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State have raised alarm over the outbreak of a strange disease causing painful wounds and bone damage.

The ailment, which reportedly begins as a boil before bursting and eating into the flesh, has left many residents incapacitated.

Victims say the condition persists despite medical treatment.

One of the patients, Mrs. Phibi Sabo, described her ordeal: “It started like a boil, then burst and began eating up the flesh on my leg, damaging the bones and leaving me in severe pain.

“I can no longer carry out daily activities.”

Another victim, Malam Junaidu Adamu, said he had been battling the illness for two months, spending about N25,000 weekly on drugs without improvement.

“Now my wife stays home to care for me and the children, which has affected our livelihood,” he lamented.

District Head of Malabo, Alhaji Aliyu Hammawa, confirmed that about 30 residents had been affected, with eight currently receiving treatment at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola.

Dr. Suleiman Bashir, Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said samples had been taken for laboratory tests, with results expected within 10 days.

He urged residents to seek proper medical care instead of relying on traditional remedies.

The victims have appealed for urgent government intervention, warning that the disease could spread to other communities if left unchecked.
