There is a report of an alliance between the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Labour Party, LP, in Delta State to wrest governorship power from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The alliance building was a sequel to the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections in which the Labour Party and the APC recorded impressive outings.

LP’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi won in Delta while the APC won the senatorial election in Delta Central and Delta South, leaving the PDP with the seat of the minority Edo North Senatorial District.

Realising that an alliance between them would completely sink Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s PDP and the guber candidate, Sherrif Oborevwori, APC’s guber candidate and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, reportedly launched a nimble political alliance with the LP towards recording an emphatic poll victory.

An agreement was said to have been reached in principle and to concretise their agreement Omo-Agege and the Labour Party canvassers, had agreed that the motto of the alliance would be drawn from the slogans/refrains of the two parties: “APC: Papa Mama Pikin Progress!”

Reports said that Omo-Agege’s tentative agreement with leading supporters of the Labour Party in Delta State ahead of this Saturday’s governorship poll was capable of causing a tectonic shift in the traditional political arrangement, leading to a comprehensive defeat of the PDP.

The agreement was said to have been reached at a meeting in BON Hotel, Warri on Saturday evening, according to a report by Green White Green online newspaper.

At the meeting, it was among things agreed by Omo-Agege and the LP canvassers to include the agenda of the Labour Party in his proposed government.

The purposed alliance is, however, coming against the determination of some leading Obidients in Delta State to go for the governorship on its own given the overwhelming victory they achieved in the presidential election last weekend.

GWG.ng reports that as part of that resolve, that the presidential flag bearer of the party, Peter Obi, is expected to visit Delta State to bolster the morale of the Obident Army.

Leading Obidient, Pat Utomi it was gathered is also making his way to Delta to galvanise support for the Labour Party governorship candidate,

Besides Omo-Agege others present at the meeting in Warri included his chief of staff, Otive Igbuzor, APC Delta Central Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki among others.

The Labour Party delegation included the Director-General of the Obidient Army, Mr Hendricks Opukeme who is also said to be an old friend of Omo-Agege’s, Pastor White, the Labour Party chairman for Ukwani Local Government Area among others.

Addressing the gathering, Omo-Agege recognized the anger of the Obidients saying that he was with them on the issue noting that Delta State as the highest recipient of oil revenue had not shown enough for the income.

Even worse, Omo-Agege lamented that despite the high income that Delta State under the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration had become heavily indebted to the tune of N850 billion.

The APC governorship candidate said that everyone in the hall had because of Okowa had become involuntary debtors.

“Whether you are a member of APC, or Labour Party, or SDP, even if you don’t belong to any party, one thing we are all united about is that Okowa is our common enemy,” Omo-Agege said.

Omo-Agege said that his government would reserve 20% of cabinet positions for youths and 20% for women and that way, the youths of Delta would not go to mount protests at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos or in the streets in Asaba.
