Encomiums and congratulatory messages have continued to pour in for the publisher/editor-in-chief of THE CONCLAVE (online newspaper), Mr Sufuyan Ojeifo, on his recent induction into the elite Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

The latest messages came from the Chairman of SETRACO (a key player in Nigeria’s construction sector), Chief (Dr) Abu Inu-Umoru, THISDAY Ombudsman, Mr Kayode Komolafe (the inimitable columnist of the left wing), a former governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni, a former Federal Commissioner at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Prof Ademola Adebo, veteran journalist and media consultant, Mr Anselm Okolo, a highly fecund Columnist and editor at Sun newspaper, Dr Amanze Obi, a veteran journalist and consultant, Mr Victor Ebome, and publisher of Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com.ng), an online news platform, Emmanuel Ajibulu, among others.

Chief (Dr) Abu Inu-Umoru’s message reads: “Congratulations on your induction into the elite Nigerian Guild of Editors. This is a recognition well deserved. You will continue to grow beyond boundaries. Well done.”

Mr Kayode Komolafe wrote: “My brother, hearty congratulations on your induction as a member of the Guild. So proud of your professional achievements. Stay blessed.”

Engineer Segun Oni wrote: “Congratulions, my dear brother-in-law. May God Almighty continue to elevate you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.”

Professor Ademola Adebo penned the following lines: “Huge congratulations to you on your induction as a member of the prestigious Nigerian Guild of Editors. This is a milestone achievement and a well-deserved honour and recognition by the Fourth Estate. I celebrate you on this special occasion. More power to your elbow.”

Dr Amanze Obi wrote: “Congratulations on your induction into the NGE fold.”

Read Mr Anselm Okolo: “Congratulations on your induction into the reserved and honoured membership of the Nigeria Guild of Editors. Your induction is deserved and earned. The NGE will benefit from your rich pool of experience as a reporter and editor over many years. Congratulations, Ojeifo.”

Mr Victor Ebome penned the following lines: “My brother Sufuyan Ojeifo, My family and I wish to, warmly, congratulate you on your induction into the Nigeria Guild of Edictors. This recognition and honour is well deserved after your practice of journalism for well over 30 years. More power to your elbow. I wish you and your family God’s guidance and protection always. Amen. Cheers.”

Mr Emmanuel Ajibulu in a statement described Mr Ojeifo as “a competent, highly professional,  humble, cerebral, disciplined and thoroughbred media professional of over three decades who has helped to change the face of modern journalism and has produced many mentees with enviable credentials in the industry.”

The publisher also wrote: “Mr. Ojeifo’s induction was apt and long overdue which further demonstrates that the Guild is an astute body that identifies and reward loyalty, commitment, hard work, sacrifice and recognises individuals who consistently uphold the ethos and ethics of the profession.

“Without mincing words, the NGE has, in this regard, made a strong statement for the fourth estate of the realm as a worthy exemplar that cherishes integrity, dignity, and high moral rectitude.

“Similarly, NGE had, as well redoubled its efforts to place the noble profession in a prime position to continually fulfil its constitutional obligation of serving as a watchdog of the people in checking the excesses of government and promoting the greatest good of the greatest number of our people no matter whose ox is gored.”

Recall that Ojeifo and thirty-eight other editors were inducted at Uyo on Friday, November 17, 2023.

The General Secretary of the Guild, Iyobosa Uwugiaren, PhD, had said on the occasion that this year’s membership screening process was rigorous, saying that “of the 97 applications that were received, only 38 received the significant approbation of the committee and the Guild.”

The NGE is an elite club of Nigerian editors with over 300 members cutting across the print, broadcast, and online media. Induction into the Guild is like elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the legal profession in Nigeria.

The Guild has Nigeria’s journalism greats as patrons, including the inimitable editor and publisher, Mr Sam Amuka of Vanguard newspaper, whose legendary column-“Sad Sam” in The Punch of yore poignantly interrogated societal ills and systemic failures; Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun state and one-time editor of the Daily Times and Mr Ray Ekpu, an intrepid writer and one of the co-founders of Newswatch magazine. There are other leading lights of the Guild whose guidance has been invaluable.

Incidentally, the troika of Amuka, Osoba, and Ekpu stamped the authority of their presence at the 19th All Nigeria Editors Conference, which rounded off in Uyo on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
