Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has signed a contract with the Rivers State Government for the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road.
The contract signing took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt last Tuesday.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara expressed his admiration for Julius Berger, highlighting their successful track record in landmark projects within the state.
He emphasized that the company’s history of delivering high-quality infrastructure and capital projects in Rivers State made them the ideal choice for this new contract.
Governor Fubara commended Julius Berger for their outstanding performance and involvement in numerous significant projects such as flyovers, roads, buildings, and medical centers across the state.

He expressed confidence that the Ring Road project would be completed on schedule, as the company had consistently fulfilled its obligations as contractors.
The governor said that the Rivers State Government would contribute 77% of the N195.3 billion contract sum, amounting to approximately N150 billion, to initiate the project.
He assured Julius Berger that the remaining balance would be paid once the company has completed around 75% of the work.
Governor Fubara encouraged Julius Berger to continue their excellent work, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support.
The project, which spans six local government areas including Okrika, Eleme, Echie, Ikwerre, and Obia-Akpor, is expected to significantly impact the state’s development.
Governor Fubara urged the residents of the project area to cooperate responsibly with the contractors to ensure the project’s successful completion.
He also warned traditional rulers and youths in the listed local government areas and their communities against obstructing the work of the contractors.
Governor Fubara described the Port Harcourt Ring Road as the largest project undertaken by the state, anticipating that its completion would attract industrialists, real estate investors, and other businesses to the area.
He emphasized the road’s importance and revealed that people had already begun acquiring land along the project corridor.
The governor stated that the project would be finished within 36 months to align with the timeframe of his administration.
During his inaugural speech as Governor of Rivers State, Governor Fubara outlined his administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructure, including roads, bridges, electricity supply, and social housing.
He expressed the intention to develop an integrated multimodal public transportation system and construct the Port Harcourt Ring Road to enhance mobility and facilitate economic opportunities across the state.
Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, acknowledged the company’s successful track record in completing important infrastructure projects in Rivers State.
He credited this success to the strong partnership between the company and the Rivers State Government.
Dr. Richter highlighted that the Port Harcourt Ring Road project includes a 45km long dualized road, six flyover bridges, and one creek bridge.
He assured the government and people of Rivers State that Julius Berger was honoured to be chosen once again as the technical partner for this project. Dr. Richter commended the state government for its foresight and vision in investing in infrastructure.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Management of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Richter expressed gratitude to the governor for the government’s continuous trust in the company and for the opportunity to undertake the largest project in collaboration with the Rivers State Government.
The contract-signing ceremony was attended by Governor Fubara, his deputy, cabinet members, and other high-ranking state government officials.
The Julius Berger delegation included Chairman Mutiu Sunmonu, Managing Director Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, Deputy Regional Manager Engr. Rimon Marisho, Project Coordinator Chief Sam-Ngbor, Project Manager Engr. Taner Oezerkan, Senior Contract Manager Barr. (Mrs) Omonigho Brown, and the Company’s Head of Media Relations Prince Moses Duku.
