Prosperity Cup: NFF President, Eguavoen, others attend closing ceremony of Africa’s biggest grassroots tournament in Yenagoa

The stage is set for the grand finale of Nigeria’s most prominent grassroots football spectacle, the Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament, fondly known as the “Prosperity Cup.”

After months of intense football competition, 214 teams initially registered for this year’s edition and battled it out across 24 centers within the eight local government areas of the State.

In the highly anticipated final match, Crusaders Feeders FC from Peretorugbene, representing Ekeremor Local Government Area, will face off against De Grace FC of Yenagoa on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the illustrious Samson Siasia Stadium.

The kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm.

The event will be graced by dignitaries, including the State Governor, Douye Diri, who will have the honour of performing the kick-off.

Joining him will be the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Daniel Igali, and other personalities.

The closing ceremony of this historic tournament will be attended by members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and State executive council, party leaders, political appointees, newly appointed LG Council caretaker chairmen, football legends from the country, and various stakeholders.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Ibrahim Gusau, NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, Nigeria National League NNL Chairman George Aluo, NNL Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Attah, Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Adesanya, and Coaches Monday Odigie, Kennedy Boboye, and Imama Amapakabo are among the distinguished guests expected to witness the epic finale.

The women’s final will take place before the men’s match, with Golden Sun Sports Academy and Crystal Stars FC competing on the turf at 1 pm at the Samson Siasia Stadium, accompanied by other exciting side attractions.

The statement mentions that the women’s Prosperity Cup’s losers’ final will be held on the preceding Saturday at 1 pm. Meanwhile, the men’s third-place encounter between Agbere FC of Sagbama and Dream Boys FC of Odi will follow at 3 pm at the same venue.

Mr. Ono Akpe, the Director General of the Prosperity Cup, assures that preparations for the thrilling final are in full swing.

He encourages the youth of the state to continue directing their energies towards sports and other positive endeavors that enhance the state’s image.

He also expresses gratitude to Governor Senator Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Chief Daniel Igali, for their unwavering dedication to sports development.

The tournament has been a positive engagement for the youth in recent months.
In the semifinals leading up to the Final, Crusaders Feeders FC secured their place with a 2-1 victory against Agbere FC, while De Grace FC triumphed over Dream Boys FC of Odi with a score of 2-0.
