Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Managing Director and CEO of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, has reaffirmed his dedication to revitalizing the moribund rice farms in the Niger Delta.
Leveraging the region’s favourable swamp terrain, he said he aimed to transform it into a leading hub for rice production in Nigeria.
Speaking on the Business Space Programme of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Port Harcourt, Prince Amgbare highlighted the region’s ideal conditions for rice cultivation.
He assured the public of his commitment to enhancing food security by making the Niger Delta a premier destination for rice production.
Amgbare disclosed that the Authority planned to resuscitate key rice farms, including Peremabiri and Isampou, to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production and enable exports.
He noted ongoing discussions with key investors to form partnerships that would maximize the region’s rice production potential.
“Talks are in top gear with some key investors in this regard, as I have before me proposals targeted at bringing to life the moribund rice farms in the Niger Delta,” Amgbare stated.
“We shall settle for only those with the best interest of the region at heart, ensuring self-sufficiency and a leading position in rice production.”
Previously, Prince Amgbare expressed the Authority’s determination to address the challenges facing the Peremabiri rice farm.
He emphasized that revamping this farm could significantly contribute to self-sufficiency in rice production and create job opportunities for the region’s youth.
