• IGP mourns fallen officer
Police operatives have intensified efforts to combat violent crime across the country, conducting a series of successful raids that resulted in the neutralization of 12 bandits and the recovery of firearms.
In a statement issued on March 20, 2025, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, directed all state commands to implement strategic action plans aimed at reducing crime, leading to notable successes in Benue State.
According to Adejobi, on March 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 am, operatives of the Benue State Police Command’s Operation Zenda Joint Taskforce were ambushed by bandits while advancing towards a criminal hideout in Agwabi, Tombo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area.
A fierce exchange of gunfire followed, during which the police forces overpowered the assailants, neutralizing 12 bandits while others fled the scene.
Tragically, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse sustained a fatal gunshot wound during the operation.
Subsequent raids in Daudu and Makurdi resulted in the recovery of seven locally made pistols, three AK-47 rifles, and the arrest of five suspected robbers and 32 suspected cultists.
The IGP commended the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to maintaining public safety.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen officer and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
