A 21-year-old mother of two, identified as Lilian, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her 34-year-old partner to death during a domestic dispute.

According to the police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, Lilian had been cohabiting with the deceased for four years, starting when she was just 17 years old, and they had two children together.

The altercation reportedly began when Lilian asked her partner to help her recharge their electricity meter, but he ignored her.

This led to a heated argument, during which he beat her with a cane and smashed her head on the ground.

In response, Lilian rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed him in the chest when he advanced towards her.

Lilian claimed she acted in self-defence, stating that her partner attempted to end their relationship, which led to the violent confrontation.

She expressed regret over the incident, saying, “I am not happy that he is dead”.

The police confirmed that Lilian would be charged with murder.

Edafe urged Nigerians to manage their temper to avoid such tragic outcomes, questioning the societal factors that contribute to such incidents, including early cohabitation and parental responsibility.
