Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel, has responded to rumours claiming he stepped down from his position.

The false reports began spreading late Tuesday on social media, suggesting that Gabriel had left his role as speaker for unclear reasons.
The news triggered confusion and led to questions about the leadership of the state assembly.
On Wednesday, Gabriel addressed the issue through his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, D.T. Stanley.

He described the rumour as false and said there was no truth to the claim that he had resigned.
He explained that such resignation would only happen through official legislative procedures, not through social media or street gossip.
He reminded the public that he was lawfully elected by members of the House and still holds his position as Speaker as of July 2, 2025.

Gabriel made it clear that he has not left office and called on the public to ignore the misleading information being shared online.
