The Eid-el-Fitr celebration was without hitches in Damaturu and Maiduguri, the capitals of Yobe and Borno states respectively as thousands of Muslim faithful trooped to the Eid Prayer Grounds to perform the customary prayer.

The Eid Prayer Grounds in parts of the two states were filled up with Muslims who were on hand to pray to Allah on successful ending of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.

They had to endure the long trek to the Prayer Grounds as there was restriction in vehicular movement throughout the period of the prayer to forestall attacks from the insurgents.

There was heavy security presence in all the Prayer Grounds.

Speaking to journalists after joining the rest of the Muslims for prayer, the Yobe State Governor, Mai-Mala Buni said the Ramadan had instilled in the hearts of faithful, self-control, truthfulness, patience, humility, devotion, kindness, tolerance, forgiveness, alturism and complete obedience to the eill of Almighty Allah.

He said another important act of worship on this day was the Zakatul Fitr or giving out a measure of foodstuff per head to the poor and the needy in the society pointing out that the period, therefore, inculcated in believers a stronger feeling of mercy, love, brotherhood and good character by making the less privileged happy as enjoined by the Almighty Allah.

Buni further expressed concern over the incidents of Boko Haram attacks on innocent, law-abiding and devoted Muslim communities of Geidam and Kanamma during the Ramadan fasting period where a number of people lost their lives while others were displaced from their homes.

He said though normalcy was gradually returning to the areas, the people should not however relent in prayers for lasting peace to continue in the state and the country at large.

He reiterated his support and unalloyed loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari in his noble drive at eradicating insurgency, kidnapping and activities of outlawed groups threatening the internal security of the nation.

In Borno State, the Acting Governor, Alhaji Usman Kadafur assured that the state government under the leadership of Prof. Babagana Zulum would continue to intensify collaborative efforts with the security operatives to end the activities of insurgency and other related crimes in the state.

Kadafur said this at the Government House Maiduguri briefly after he returned from the Ramat Square where he observed two Raka’at led by Idaini of Borno Imam Mamman Ibn Shetima Sale.

Kadafur, who was at the Eid Prayer Ground with the Senator representing Borno Central, Kashim Shetima, members of Borno State Executive Council, State Assembly and other dignitaries, ensured that the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, wearing of face masker from strictly adhered to.

He asked for continued cooperation of the citizens with security operatives for peace and continued stability and development of the state.
