In order to be able to predict and plan their farming activities and crop planting calendar, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency in collaboration with HEDA Resource Centre and OXFAM, has tasked farmers in Nasarawa State to always make use of climate information services.

Climate Information services are the packaging and dissemination of climate information to specific users, especially farmers as it is an essential process in ensuring that they respond to threats presented by climate change.

Chief Agricultural Meteorologist of the agency, James Adamu, made the call in Lafia recently while speaking with journalists at the close of a one-day Agriculture stakeholders and farmers workshop on climate change.

He explained that the workshop was aimed at educating farmers and other agricultural stakeholders on their roles in the production and use of seasonal climate prediction.

While commending Power of Voices Partnership-African Activists for Climate Justice for also partnering NiMET on the workshop, Adamu said that “the agency regularly makes information concerning the weather available to users because lack of information had led to uninformed decisions by farmers across the country.”
