Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, has confirmed significant developments concerning recent security operations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
He did so at a media briefing on military operations held today, March 28th, 2024.
Major General Buba disclosed that the Nigerian military had declared eight individuals wanted in connection with the killings of 17 army personnel in the Okuama Community of Delta State.
The incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of 17 soldiers, prompted swift action from the military to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The identities of the wanted individuals were not immediately disclosed.
Major General Buba confirmed the release of 313 suspects who were detained on charges related to terrorism offences.
These suspects were released to the Borno State government following a court order issued after the conclusion of investigations and associated legal proceedings.
The cases against the suspects were prosecuted by the Department of Prosecution within the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The released individuals will now be transferred to the jurisdiction of the Borno State Government for further legal procedures.
Highlighting the accomplishments of Operation HADIN ΚΑΙ during the reporting week, Major General Buba reported significant progress in counter-terrorism efforts.
In compliance with a court order issued by the Federal High Court in Maiduguri, troops of Operation HADIN ΚΑΙ executed operations resulting in the neutralization of 52 terrorists, the arrest of 137 suspects, and the successful rescue of 78 hostages who had been kidnapped by terrorist elements.
The military forces recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during operations, including 3 M56 rifles, 40 AK47 rifles, 3 PKT guns, 889 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 310 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, among other items.
The developments underscore the Nigerian military’s continued commitment to safeguarding national security and combating terrorism across the country.
With ongoing operations and collaborations with judicial authorities, efforts are being made to ensure the apprehension of suspects involved in violent acts and the maintenance of peace and stability in affected regions.
