A British teenager born by Nigerian parents is officially the fastest 100m sprinter in the world after he smashed the previous record and set a staggering new time.

Divine Iheme, 14, perhaps the quickest teenage athlete on these shores at the tender age of just 14, laid down a new milestone as he clocked a blistering 10.30s.

“Lightning” Divine was singled out as a likely track superstar of the future after recording UK best times for the 100m and 200m in April this year.

He also beat his best 100m effort in June with a time of 10.65s and has crossed the line even faster, only to miss out on the record books due to wind-assisted races.

However, his incredible feat at Lee Valley this week will go down in history.

His mother, Nkiruku, and father Innocent Iheme were both successful athletes who represented Nigeria at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
