Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has announced the cancellation of all elaborate Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, including the traditional Hawan Bariki and Durbar festivities, across all Emirates in the state.

This decision follows the devastating flood disaster that struck Mokwa and its surrounding communities, leading to significant loss of lives and destruction of property.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, conveyed the directive, stating that the move is a mark of respect for the victims and a gesture to honor those affected. He emphasized that the government is calling for a low-key celebration to allow for mourning, reflection, and prayer.

According to Usman, the flood in Mokwa is among the worst the state has seen in decades, leaving many families bereaved and their homes and sources of livelihood destroyed.
