NGO set to empower women and children with computer knowledge in Osun

In order to complement the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led administration’s efforts in transforming Osun State, plans are afoot by a Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, known as “Ipinlese Foundation” to empower women and children in the state with computer knowledge through the setting up of a computer lab in Akiriboto community.

According to the NGO during its official visit to the Ogboru of Akiriboto Community in Ayedaade local government area of Osun State, Oba Adewale Adekanmi, who is expected to sponsor the empowerment programme to the residents of the area, “necessary arrangements have been put in place to that effect.”

Collaborating with an international NGO, named the Continental Network of Indigenous Women of the Americas and private investors from North America, they are planning to support the empowerment of local women and young girls through an initiative funded by women-led private investors that will provide computers in setting up a computer lab in the ancient Community High School of Akiriboto community.

“The aim is to motivate youth to learn and engage in technology, which serves as a window to the world of global information, where no child should be left behind, including Yoruba youth. Also, this computer lab will support the creation of and increase access to Yoruba electronic textbooks,” the NGO said.

In their separate addresses, a representative of the NGO for North America, Dr Rosalee Gonzalez, and a private investor, Ms Jacqueline Garduno, said they had chosen Osun State because of the goodwill of the Akiriboto royal father.

They described the monarch as “a man of his words who loves his people dearly.”

The visitors expressed delight with the traditional reception given to them by the people of Akiriboto kingdom, and stressed the importance of uplifting the international solidarity among indigenous peoples globally.

In his welcome speech, the Ogboru of Akiriboto kingdom, Oba Adewale Adekanmi, appreciated the NGO for coordinating their visit and coming all the way from America, and said he was delighted that the people of his town would benefit from the good gesture of the NGO and private investors.

The monarch took the opportunity of the occasionally to pledge his total support to the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the state.

He explained that the Governor had brought unprecedented development to the state since he assumed office.

He welcomed and applauded the construction of the new community school building.

He also expressed his continued commitment to work assiduously in attracting more development opportunities to the ancient town.
