The joint sessionn of the National Assembly will convene on Thursday, October 8, 2020, to receive the 2021 proposed budget estimates from President Muhammadu Buhari.
This is sequel to an executive communication to that effect by President Buhari.
In a letter read by Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, on Tuesday at the resumption of plenary, President Buhari requested that he would be available to address both Chambers in a joint sitting at which the budget proposals would be presented.
Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to consider and pass the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) before President Buhari submits the 2021 budget.
The House of Representatives had last Wednesday approved the MTEF and the FSP. That was the same day the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the N13.08 trillion budget size for 2021.
The expectations are that the fiscal document should be considered, passed by the National Assembly and sent for the President’s assent before the end of the year in line with the January-December budget calendar (standardisation).
