The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) has addressed a recent media report that suggested the views expressed by individual speakers at the June 27th Virtual Roundtable on Nigeria’s National Anthem represented the official stance of the Academy.

In a statement, Secretary of NAL, Professor Olakunbi Olasope clarified that the opinions shared during the roundtable were solely those of the individual participants and did not reflect the official position of the Academy.

No communique or official statement conveying the viewpoints mentioned in the report was issued by NAL.

The Nigerian Academy of Letters is committed to foster intellectual discourse and diverse opinions.

“While the Academy encourages open dialogue and the exchange of ideas, it is crucial to note that personal perspectives shared in its forums do not constitute the Academy’s official position.

“The Academy follows a well-defined process and specific channels for issuing official positions on national issues, which was not utilized in this instance,” he stated.
