In a sweeping offensive, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an aggressive series of airstrikes under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle bandits’strongholds in the Northwest.

In a statement, Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa said this intensified air interdiction campaign, dubbed Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA, began with high-stakes night operations targeting notorious bandits in Zamfara and Kebbi states.

On November 8, 2024, NAF aircraft carried out a surprise nighttime assault on several key locations, including the Sangeko camp near the Kebbi border and the heavily fortified hideout of bandit leader Ado Aleiro at Asola Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area. Utilizing precise intelligence and advanced targeting systems, the strikes reportedly obliterated an arms depot and neutralized dozens of Aleiro’s fighters, striking a severe blow to the bandits’ capabilities.

The operations have reportedly allowed several kidnap victims to escape, with survivors later recounting their harrowing journey to freedom.

The success of these missions has renewed hope among local communities long affected by banditry.
