The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has called for dialogue and restraint in response to demands by the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI) to cancel a pipeline repair contract awarded to Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) in Ijaw communities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, MOSIEND President Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West emphasized the need for maturity and constructive engagement to address the concerns raised by IPDI.
He noted that the contract was awarded through a transparent, competitive bidding process and warned that injecting ethnic sentiments into the issue could jeopardize the region’s fragile peace.
“The Niger Delta thrives on peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, which are vital for sustainable development,” the statement read.
“Federal contracts are awarded based on merit, not ethnic affiliations.
”MOSIEND defended PINL, highlighting its strong track record and commitment to local employment, with approximately 70% of its workforce being of Ijaw descent.”
The group urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to dismiss calls for contract cancellation and focus on ensuring the project’s success.
The organization also encouraged PINL to deepen ties with host communities and prioritize job opportunities for Ijaw youth.
MOSIEND reiterated its commitment to fostering unity across the Niger Delta’s diverse ethnic groups and called on all stakeholders to pursue dialogue over conflict to achieve lasting solutions.
MOSIEND further stressed that the pipeline repair project is critical for the region’s economic stability and environmental safety, as delays or disruptions could exacerbate existing challenges in the Niger Delta.
The group appealed to IPDI and other stakeholders to engage in roundtable discussions with PINL and relevant authorities to address grievances and ensure the project benefits all communities equitably.
