Ministry of Interior reiterates commitment to collaborate with SERVICOM institute to train personnel

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore has reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to collaborate with SERVICOM Institute to train the personnel of the Marriage Registries across the country so as to be able to compete with their peers globally.

Belgore stated this, on Tuesday, during the presentation of reports of Federal Marriage Registries by the National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the Department of Citizenship and Business in the Ministry of Interior is charged with the responsibilities of granting/withdrawal of Nigerian citizenship to applicants, Resident Permit, Expatriate Quota, and Marriage Registration, among others.

“We are ready to accept objective criticisms from SERVICOM and willing to work with your observations and suggestions,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary stated further that, in the past, there were lots of mistakes in the operations of the marriage registries but “for now, the Ministry is doing its best to put things in proper perspectives.”

In her remarks, the National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, urged the Ministry to ensure that all its Marriage Registries nationwide, comply with SERVICOM requirements so that customers can be better treated.

She advised personnel of the Registries to go for on-the-job trainings to improve on their productivity.

She noted that timeliness, and adequate information should be provided in the Registries in order to keep customers abreast of their activities.

Also speaking, the Director Citizenship and Business in the Ministry, Mrs Moremi Soyinka- Onijala, commended the National Coordinator of the SERVICOM for the job well done, stressing that, with increase in the number of Marriage Registries all over the country, the Federal Government was open to Public, Private Partnership for effective management of staff strength in the Registries.
