The distribution of insecticide mosquito-treated nets has commenced in all nooks and crannies of Osun State, following its flagg- off by the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday.
The programme was launched by Osun State Government in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme and other health partners, with the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, as the net ambassador.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi used the occasion to enjoin residents of the State to give maximum cooperation to the distribution team whenever they come to their door steps.
She urged the people to make use of the nets when given so as to serve the purpose for which they were meant.
Meanwhile, the distribution as scheduled is to last up to 17th of this month in order to give room for every household in the state to be served.
The governor, who stated that Osun State has good track records in malaria advocacy and treated nets distribution, reiterates his commitment to give the entire process of the net distribution the needed support.
The Governor who stressed further that his administration has a health for all agenda,said that the agenda is focused on the people, by the people and for the people, maintaining that meeting the health needs of residents of the state is paramount to his government.
In their separate goodwill messages, the representatives of the collaborating agencies said that statistics have shown that malaria cases in Osun state have drastically decreased from an estimated 4.2 million between 2009 and 2021.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Isiaka Adekunle, had intimated the government with the activities of the National Malaria Elimination Program and its partners in the interest of the people of Osun State. He appreciated the Global Fund, Society for Family Health, Catholic Relief Services, the Federal Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders for collaborating to protect the people, particularly pregnant women and children from malaria infection.
The programme climaxed with the presentation of the insecticide nets and symbolic demonstration of its usage.
