Major fire averted at Finance Ministry

There was a minor fire incident at the Federal Ministry of Finance in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to a witness’ account, the fire was caused by an explosion of expired inverter batteries at the basement of the Ministry’s building.

The spokesperson of the Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul, who confirmed the incident said men of the fire service had been deployed in the scene.

When contacted by our correspondent, Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications, Mr Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, described the development “as a minor fire incident” which was quickly contained by security personnel in (sic) the premises before the arrival of firefighters.”

He said, “The Federal Ministry of Finance is not on fire as reported on the social media. Rather there was an incident on the corridor on the basement involving an isolated battery pack and it was quickly put out by the security operatives on duty.
