Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in February 25th general election, in Kogi State, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has reportedly been involved in a ghastly car accident on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
A report by SaharaReporters on Saturday said that Akpoti, who is challenging the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere, who was declared winner, was involved in the accident on Friday.
The report said that her Sports Utility Vehicle hit a curb on the road, causing injury to the passengers in the car.
“It is true. She was rushed into the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, after an accident on Abuja-Lokoja Expressway. She was unconscious but was resuscitated with rapid response by the management. Consultants were mobilised for prompt action. Glory to God, she was restored.
“When she came around and discovered she was in Lokoja, FTH, she requested to be transferred to Abuja that night. They left here minutes after 6 pm for Abuja. She was stable,” one of the witnesses said.
Natasha recently filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the results of her senatorial election.
SaharaReporters had on March 27 reported that the Election Petition Tribunal sitting on the petition filed by Natasha granted the application to serve the candidate of the APC, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere, notice of the petition through substituted means.
It was gathered that Ohere had been evading service since the petition was filed in court.
Ohere also allegedly hired thugs and police officers to guard his home and chase away the lawyers of the PDP.
As of then, the lawyers went with the court bailiff to serve Ohere, but the thugs assaulted and chased them away.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had challenged Ohere’s victory at the poll before the tribunal and also joined the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC in the suit.
Ohere was announced by INEC as the winner of the just concluded National Assembly elections.
Rotimi Ajayi, returning officer for Kogi Central Senatorial district, had said the APC candidate garnered 52,132 votes to beat the PDP flag bearer who had 51,763 votes.
In the petition filed by her lawyer, Natasha is praying the tribunal to sack her opponent and declare her winner of the poll.
