The Kano State Police Command has announced sweeping disciplinary measures in Sheka Division following allegations of extortion and misconduct involving a police officer, a Special Constabulary operative, and a vigilante member.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that the case is under investigation. He explained that while allegations of extortion were raised against the accused, counter-claims of drug dealing were also made against the complainant. So far, investigators have not substantiated either side’s claims.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed that discreet findings confirmed the involvement of one serving Special Constabulary officer and a vigilante operative attached to the Division.

To safeguard the process and prevent interference, CP Bakori ordered the transfer of the implicated police officer alongside 22 others from Sheka Division, suspended the Special Constabulary personnel, and disengaged the vigilante operative pending the outcome of the investigation.

He assured that the probe would be thorough and impartial, warning that anyone found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary or legal sanctions.

Reiterating the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, the police urged residents to remain patient and support the process with credible information.

For emergencies or to report suspicious activities, members of the public are advised to call 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
