The Nigerian Army, on Monday, December 23, 2024, decorated 35 newly-promoted Major Generals during an investiture ceremony held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Asokoro, Abuja.

According to Director Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the officers for their dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices, which earned them their elevation.

He stressed the critical role of the Nigerian Armed Forces in addressing the nation’s security challenges and urged the newly promoted officers to safeguard democracy and enhance national security.

“The promotion of these senior officers is a beacon of hope for Nigerians and a call to action in tackling our country’s security challenges head-on,” Musa said.

He also emphasized the importance of improving troop welfare and strengthening the Armed Forces to fulfill their constitutional duties.

The CDS extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and strategic leadership, which facilitated the officers’ promotions.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the newly promoted officers and their families, highlighting the significance of their achievements.

He called on the officers to embody the values of their new ranks and align with his vision of a well-motivated, combat-ready force capable of operating effectively in joint and multi-agency environments.

Major General LG Lepdung, speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for endorsing their promotions.

He assured the nation of their continued commitment to the ideals of service and collaboration for the Armed Forces’ greater good.

The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including Senator Abdulazeez Musa Yar’Adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army; Honourable Aminu Balele, Chairman of the House Committee on Army; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; and representatives of the Air Force, Police, and other defense institutions.

The ceremony underscored the Nigerian Army’s dedication to fostering professionalism and enhancing the capacity of its senior leadership to address national security needs.
