Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
The purpose of the visit was to extend congratulations to the CDS on his well-deserved appointment and to express gratitude to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for their unwavering dedication in providing adequate security to the state.
During the meeting, Governor Sule highlighted the significance of the recent discovery of lithium deposits in Nasarawa State.
He emphasized the importance of taking proactive security measures to avoid any security challenges that may arise due to this discovery, drawing attention to the need to learn from past experiences, such as those encountered in Zamfara.
Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, conveyed Governor Sule’s remarks, further underlining the necessity of a vigilant approach to address potential security threats that could emerge alongside the economic opportunities presented by the lithium discovery.
In response, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa expressed his gratitude for the Governor’s support of the AFN and commended his initiatives in driving development within the state.
He assured Governor Sule of the Armed Forces’ continuous commitment to providing support and security for Nasarawa State, given its strategic proximity to the Federal Capital.
The CDS stressed the importance of establishing stringent regulatory controls on mining activities in the state.
This measure, he asserted, would serve as a preventive measure against any potential security breaches and help maintain a peaceful environment in Nasarawa State.
The meeting underscored the cooperation and shared commitment between the Nasarawa State government and the Armed Forces in safeguarding the region’s prosperity and security.
