Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has warned that any attempt to interfere with the impartial administration of justice in the ongoing Governorship Election Tribunal case in the State, is not only unacceptable but, a grave threat to the rule of law and the well-being of our citizens.
He expressed concerns over reports of attempts by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate the ongoing case at the Governorship Election Tribunal.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the actions, which included witness intimidation, sponsorship of thugs, peddling of fake news, and a premature declaration of victory, were affront to the very foundation of our justice system.
A statement by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Edo State, said that Senator Okpebholo specifically said that the judiciary was the cornerstone of democracy, stressing that its integrity must be upheld at all costs.
The governor therefore urged the relevant authorities, including the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and other state actors, to thoroughly investigate the allegations and take swift and decisive action against those responsible.
Okpebholo said; “The people of Edo State deserve a Tribunal process that is fair, transparent, and accountable.”
He warned that he would not tolerate any action that undermined the integrity of the Tribunal, stressing that Edo people have given him a resounding mandate.
Read Okpebholo; “No amount of intimidation, falsehoods, media propaganda, and paid thugs can change God’s mandate for Edo people.”
