A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has slammed the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi, for saying Nigerians were acting cowardly in the face of bandits’ attacks.
Magashi had asked Nigerians not to be cowards when attacked by bandits, but should rather defend themselves.
The Minister addressed reporters on violent attacks in some parts of the country on Wednesday at the National Assembly where he said people should not be cowards as “bandits sometimes possess a few rounds of ammunition.”
In a riposte, Fani-Kayode wondered if Magashi knew he had failed in his job of protecting Nigerians as Defence Minister.
He, however, expressed confidence in Nigerians’ ability to defend themselves if equipped with guns.
He tweeted: “The Defence Minister says Nigerians are cowards, that they always run when attacked by terrorists and that they should defend and protect themselves.
“Does he know that it is his job to protect the people and he failed? Equip every Nigerian with an AK 47 & and see if they will still run.”
