Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has sounded the alarm over Nigeria’s future, warning that the country may not survive another four years under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Sokoto during a grassroots mobilisation event for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), el-Rufai declared that removing the APC from power in 2027 was not just a political mission but a matter of national survival.

“We may not have a country if the APC continues beyond 2027,” he said.

He declared: “This is a fight for our lives.”

el-Rufai, who was one of the founding members of the APC, left the party in March 2025, following the rejection of his ministerial nomination by the National Assembly.

The lawmakers had cited alleged security concerns for their decision.

He initially defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but his stay was short-lived after the party expelled him and slapped him with a 30-year ban over allegations of document forgery.

Now, a prominent figure in the ADC, el-Rufai has thrown his weight behind efforts to unseat the APC, branding the current administration as “incompetent” and unfit to steer the country through its challenges. [with GWG report]
