As governorship hopefuls gear up for the 2022 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, a leading aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Segun Oni, has expressed optimism he will win the party’s ticket.

Oni, who is seeking to return as governor after he was controversially removed via the court in 2010, had also helped to stabilise the reconciliation arrangement between warring groups in the Ekiti PDP.

According to Oni, “we have reached out to every delegate, and we are prepared for the emergence of three-man ad-hoc delegates in each ward, and by the grace of God and support of party members, we will emerge victorious.”

Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure a resounding success for the PDP in the governorship election, the two contending groups in the party, the Osoko Political Assembly (OPA) led by former Governor Ayo Fayose and Repositioning Group led by the Senator representing Ekiti South, Biodun Olujimi, met for the second time in Lagos on Sunday, to reaffirm their readiness to work together.

The meeting was attended by Fayose, Olujimi, Senator Duro Faseyi, Otunba Yinka Akerele and Hon. Deji Ogunsakin.

THE CONCLAVE reports that Segun Oni was absent in the meeting since the two sides had reached a truce.

“The two groups once again want to reassure the entire PDP members in Ekiti State in particular, that the ongoing talks and reconciliation will lead us all to the desired victory.

“The groups admonished all stakeholders to embrace peace before, during and after the primaries.

“While thanking our national chairman and the entire National Working Committee (NWC) members for their immense support so far, we want to assure the leaders that we are committed to the understanding we had with the party,” the statement jointly signed by Fayose and Olujimi read.
