The Edo State High Court sitting in Igarra on Wednesday nullified the impeachment of Hon. Taju Alade, the elected Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, and ordered his immediate return to office.
Delivering judgement in the suit, Justice B.A. Okoh ruled that the removal of Hon. Alade from office was unlawful and therefore void.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure adequate security is provided to enable the embattled chairman to resume his official duties without hindrance.
Justice Okoh further held that the court possessed full jurisdiction to entertain the matter, dismissing arguments by the State government that questioned the court’s authority in the case.
