The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has debunked claims that its recent Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission in Ghana predicted violence in the forthcoming elections.

The commission described a media report suggesting this as “dishonest” and emphasized that the mission’s findings were confidential.

“The commission categorically denounces the tabloid’s dishonest reportage. ECOWAS pre-electoral missions do not issue statements on their findings.

“Reports of such missions are confidential and meant only for the eyes of the President of the Commission,” the ECOWAS commission said.

The commission stressed that no statement had been made predicting violence in the December 2024 elections.

It said the assertions by the news channel was “preposterous.”

ECOWAS expressed concerns over attempts to distort the mission’s purpose and misrepresent its findings.

The commission reaffirmed its trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions and pledged continued support to ensure transparent, inclusive, and peaceful elections.
