The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Lagos State has scaled down its list of potential deputy governorship running mate to the guber candidate, Alhaji Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran, better known by his stage name Jandor, to five.
In what has appeared to be dramatic is the appearance of popular Nollywood actress Olufunke Akindele, also known as Jenifa in thd shortlist, which included Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Yeye Shobajo, David Kolawole Vaughan, also known as DAKOVA, and Engineer Teslim Balogun.
There strong feelers that Funke Akindele may have been the most favoured as the deputy governorship candidate after a picture of Jandor and hers went viral on Friday.
The actress was listed as a potential running mate, according to checks done by a Daily Trust correspondent, and the choice of the governorship candidate’s running mate has yet to be formally made.
A committee has reportedly been set up to evaluate the candidates and select the best one to serve as Jandor’s running mate.
As of the time of filing this report, a meeting of stakeholders of the party was ongoing to select one of the nominees.
However, it was learnt that Rhodes-Vivour and Kolawole, two of the shortlisted persons, are from Lagos West, the same senatorial area as Jandor, which may dim their prospects.
Balogun is from Lagos Central, while Yeye Shobajo and Funke Akindele are from the East.
A woman being considered for the running mate position has a compelling argument, according to a source.
A party chieftain disclosed that discussions were still going on to choose the best candidate.
He claimed that one of the factors taken into account was the possible candidate’s statewide influence, appeal and popularity.
