●As Gov Yusuf presents letter of appointment to Sanusi
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Friday, presented letter of appointment to Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the 16th Emir of Kano.
With that official seal and gesture, Emir Sanusi is back on the throne from which he was removed on March 9, 2020.
His return to the throne bears similitude with the dethronement and return to the throne of the late Olowo of Owo, Sir Olateru Olagbegi.
Olagbegi was off the throne for twenty one years and had to return to the throne when Oba Ogunoye with whom the western regional government replaced him died under the the administration of the Old Ondo State Governor, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua.
Both the late Olagbegi abd Sanusi were caught up in the intricate webs of politics in their respective intersections.
The presentation of letter of appointment to Sanusi, four years after his removal by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was sequel to the signing into law of the amended Kano State Emirate Council Law by the governor on Thursday.
The amended law abolished the five Emirate Councils and sacked the emirs appointed by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2019, paving way for the re-enthroment of Sanusi.
Speaking while presenting the letter, Yusuf said, “Sanusi is a victim of the immediate past administration, who is now being restored to his rightful position to lead the people.”
The ceremony was graced by members of the Kano Emirate Council, district heads and title holders.
It also marked a new chapter in the history of the Kano Emirate with re-enthroment of Sanusi, who was deposed in 2020 by the Ganduje administration.
