Veteran journalist Dele Momodu has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Momodu, a PDP presidential aspirant in the 2023 election, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Momodu, in a letter dated Thursday, July 17, 2025, hinged his resignation on what he described as the PDP’s takeover by antidemocratic forces.
He added that his resignation from the opposition party was with immediate effect.
The publisher of Ovation International stated: “My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.
“It is therefore honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while [a] majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.”
Momodu’s resignation from the PDP comes after the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, dumped the party.
