COVID-19: Reps C’tte allays fear of possible spread of virus across NYSC orientation camps

The House Representatives Committee on Youths Development, on Tuesday, allayed the fear of possible spread of the dreaded COVID-19  pandemic in the Orientation Camps of the National Youth Corps, NYSC, in progress across the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Yemi Adaramodu while speaking with newsmen shortly after the oversight  visit of the  Committee to the Nasarawa State NYSC camp at Keffi, declared that there was no cause for concern over possible spread or outbreak of the Virus at any of the Orientation Camps nationwide as being envisaged in some quarters

The member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, Ekiti State on the platform of the All Progressive Party, APC, stated that the Committee was convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that there was no need to entertain any fear of possible spread of the virus at the orientation camps based on the adequate measures and strict adeherence to COVID-19 Protocols already on ground.

According to him, “There is no cause for concern on possible spread of the COVID-19 pandemic virus at the ongoing NYSC Orientation Camps  across the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT,Abuja,. Right from the entrance to the Orientation Camp, we were made to observe the COVID-19 Protocols as stipulated by relevant Agencies

“The health Officers on ground measured our temperatures, we watched our hands and we were given hand sanitizers, then we moved hostels and we saw how the beds were arranged by maintaining social distance and from there we visited the Corps members at their various groups where they were engaged in one enterpreniumship trade or the other with all Corps members were face masks along with the officials, then we visited the kitchen where the food of Corps members are being prepared, in an hygenic environment, we visited the Health

“Let me confess, when the the Director General of the Scheme muted the idea of mobilising the Corps members for the Orientation, I was spectical because of the pandemic ravaging the World including Nigeria, but when he took his time to educate us on the plan ground to prevent the possible spread of the virus, we have to support the idea and coming here to see things for ourselves and with field reports for other Orientation Camps, we are convinced that all is well and so can confidential say that there is no cause for alarm.”

Hon Adamodu assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would liase with state governors on the need to assist with the provisions of essential facilities needed to make the orientation exercise conducive for corps members during stay at the Camps

The Committee Chairman who made some cash donations to the Corps members at the various Enterpreneurship  Centres the Committee inspected urged them to take trade and skills being taught very serious as they would be of great importancr to them in the future

He commeded the  Nasarawa State Co-ordinator of NYSC, Mr Stephen Gabriel Dewah, for all the arrangements put on ground to make the environment conducive and urged other State Co-ordinators to emulate him in improving the scheme nationwide

The Committee later paid homage to the Emir of Keffi , Alhaji Shehu Chindo Yamusa 111, who assured them of adequate security  of the Corps members and the Officials, saying that Keffi remained a home for all Nigerians by tradition and history.
