A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has remanded 32-year-old Michael Afolarin at a correctional centre for alleged N855,000 fraud.
Afolarin, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing brought against him.
The Court President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum, in addition to maintaining the same amount in his bank account.
Akintayo stated that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State Government and possess valid identification cards.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 11 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in July 2024 at the Iyemetu-Mobil area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Ayeni, Afolarin was arrested after one Adekemi Oyewole reported that he fraudulently obtained the sum of N855,000 from her.
He noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
