A Zuba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, has remanded a 45- year-old driver, Afolabi Oluyemi , for alleged reckless driving and causing the death of a 45-year-old man.
The defendant, who resides in Kubwa, Abuja, was charged with causing death by dangerous and reckless driving and speeding.
However, Oluyemi pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs Habiba Bello ordered that the defendant be remanded in Correctional Service facility in Suleja, until May 27, for hearing of bail application.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on May 17.
Ogada told the court that the accident occurred along Tungamaji/Anagada express road Abuja on the same date.
He said that the defendant drove a Toyota sienna mini bus in a dangerous and recklessly, knocked down a 45- year old motorcycle rider, Abdulhafis Isiaku of Madalla Niger.
The prosecutor said in the process the defendant also hit and pulled down a shop belonging to Yahaya Gimbia at Epe Tungamaji.
Ogada told the court that as a result of the accident the motorcyclist Isiaku died, and the corpse was removed for burial according to Islamic rite.
He said the cost of the repair of the damaged motorcycle and the shop are yet unknown.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 27 and 45 of the Traffic act.(NAN)
